How does biotin help support hair?

Biotin or vitamin B7, the no.1 ingredient for hair on the market. Does it really help?

It has been reported that biotin is useful for hair growth and follicle formation.

From the reviews we get on our biotin and marine collagen formula, it definitely minimises hair loss, but what is the scientific evidence behind that?

The EFSA - that is the European Food Safety Authority - reported that in addition to textbooks, animal studies and case reports, a strong reference in 1992 was provided on the direct effect of biotin on alopecia and hair quality.

Symptoms of biotin deficiency, include thinning of hair, slow hair growth, and sometimes loss of all hair, including eyebrows and lashes, that's definitely a scary one.

So, what is the link between biotin and lovely hair?

We know that biotin takes part in the regulation of sebum excess at the root of hair. Sebum is an oil-like substance produced by the body. When biotin regulates sebum excess, it limits hair loss and stimulates regrowth.

Biotin also supports the production of keratin which is a protein that makes up the structure of hair and is essential for hair growth.

Even the texture of hair itself can be improved by biotin because biotin increases elasticity, this can result in softer hair.

And because biotin strengthens the hair shaft, it reduces breakage and split ends. This helps maintain the length and thickness of your hair.

Again, biotin contributes to a healthy scalp by promoting circulation and delivering vital nutrients to the hair follicles.

Expect growth of normal hair after 1 to 2 month of good diet or supplementation, so you really have to give biotin a bit of time to work.

While biotin supplements are widely available, like ours, it is important to maintain a balanced diet that includes foods rich in biotin. We have eggs, nuts, seeds and leafy green vegetables.
