Sometimes, the most powerful healing stories don’t start with medicine, but with food. This is my personal journey of how a simple supermarket deal, three packs of wild salmon for £12, unexpectedly became the key to managing my flexural psoriasis.
When the Flare-Ups Returned
A few months ago, just before Easter, my daughter started gymnastics classes every Saturday in Tonbridge. That routine gave me the perfect excuse to pop into Waitrose, where I spotted the salmon offer: 6 fillets for £12.
Now, wild salmon isn’t my daughter’s favourite, the texture is drier compared to farmed salmon but I wasn’t going to miss out. So, I committed to eating one fillet a day before the pack expired.
Week after week, I stocked up, and without realising it, I was eating salmon daily. Then, one week, I decided to skip the deal to “balance” my protein intake with beef. Within days, my psoriasis flared up again, painful, uncomfortable, and very noticeable.
Connecting the Dots
My diet is consistent to the point of boring: vegetables and protein, no snacks, no cheats. So when something changes, I notice. And the only difference was salmon.
To test my theory, I treated myself as an experiment:
-
No salmon for two weeks → flare-up returned.
-
Back on salmon for a few days → skin cleared completely.
-
Stopped salmon again → psoriasis came back within three days.
The results were undeniable.
Why Salmon Works When Supplements Don’t
Interestingly, I had tried increasing my omega-3 supplement during the salmon-free phase, but it didn’t work the same way. That made me realise the magic might not be from omega-3 alone.
Wild salmon contains a powerful combination of nutrients, including:
-
Omega-3 fatty acids – anti-inflammatory and skin-supportive
-
Vitamin D – crucial for immunity and skin health
-
B vitamins – supporting energy and cell repair
-
Selenium – a trace mineral that fights oxidative stress
-
Astaxanthin – the antioxidant that gives salmon its pink colour
Together, these may have delivered the results I saw, proof that whole foods often outperform isolated supplements.
Is It Safe to Eat Salmon Every Day?
A common question is whether eating salmon daily is safe. The answer is yes, especially wild salmon, which is a small, low-mercury fish. It’s far safer than eating tuna daily, which carries higher mercury risks.
Of course, variety in protein is ideal for long-term health. But if you’re struggling with stubborn skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema, or other mystery irritations, adding more wild salmon to your diet may be worth trying.
For me, it was life-changing.
Supporting Skin and Metabolism Together
Alongside dietary changes, supporting blood sugar balance can also benefit skin health. One tool I use is our Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules, which studies show may reduce insulin spikes by up to 30%. This helps stabilise energy, curb cravings, and keep metabolism flowing smoothly.
Final Thoughts
This journey taught me something simple but powerful: sometimes, your body responds best to real, whole foods in their natural form. For me, wild salmon wasn’t just a tasty dinner, it became part of my healing.
If you’re dealing with flare-ups, chronic skin irritation, or just want to support long-term skin health, consider making salmon a regular part of your diet. You might be surprised by the results
