From Overwhelmed Mum to Nutrition Fanatic: My Journey With Autoimmune Disease and Healing Through Food

I wasn’t born into a wellness lifestyle. I didn’t grow up sipping green smoothies or understanding food labels. In fact, I grew up in Egypt in a traditional household where sport was off-limits for girls, food came from packets, and health wasn’t something anyone really talked about.

So, what changed? Life did. I want to tell you why I became so deeply passionate about nutrition. Spoiler alert: it’s not because I wanted a flat stomach or better skin (though those were bonuses). It’s because I got sick, really sick. Over time, I was diagnosed with three autoimmune diseases, and my body felt like it was turning on me. I was inflamed, exhausted, and mentally drained.

Doctors offered medication. But I knew I needed more than that, I needed a strategy. A plan. A way to feel like myself again.

That’s when I found keto and intermittent fasting. These weren’t fads to me, they became lifelines. Slowly but surely, I learned what triggered my inflammation, how to balance my blood sugar, and how nutrient-dense foods could genuinely make or break my day. I eliminated what didn’t serve me. I doubled down on what did.

And here’s the truth: I now live pain-free. I take no medications. Everything I do from what I eat to how I move is intentional. And not because I’m perfect, but because I’m motivated.

I’m a single mum to a very active nine-year-old, and I don’t have a backup plan. My parents are back in Egypt. I have to be well, not just for me, but for her.

So yes, I’m a nutrition fanatic. Because this isn’t about trends, it’s about survival, and beyond that, it’s about thriving. And if it works for someone with a body as sensitive and reactive as mine, imagine what it can do for you.

Don’t wait for illness to force you into change. You deserve glowing skin, strong joints, a sharp brain, and the energy to keep up with your life. Not someday, but now. And no, it’s not too late.

My promise? If you give nutrition the attention it deserves whether it’s through keto, fasting, or simply eating cleaner, your body will respond. Your brain will respond. And life gets lighter, freer, and so much more beautiful when you’re well.
